We didn’t make it to the German Market today – we are postponing the trip for next week.
Prince William was at the Library of Birmingham today meeting 4 poets – my older brother was there – we could have been too if we hadn’t stayed home…
but, I did get to write down (like chow down) on my NaNo Novel and here are the latest stats:
In just over 24 hours NaNoWriMo 2013 will be over – this week I have been really busy and lost the free writing day as I worked an extra day. Today we both booked the day off to go to the German Market and start thinking about Christmas – more about this later – but 1st NANO!
I have been writing for an hour and a half and have managed nearly 2000 words – I am close to 40000 now and then I will be striding through the final 10K!
I am updating in small stages and watching the stats graph grow.

It has been refreshing to write some non-nano blog posts about writing events I have attended over the weekend, last week was fairly busy and I was tired. This week I have lots to catch up on with the NaNo Challenge and PAD challenge as well as preparing for my set this week.
I have noticed today in surfing around that a lot of people are falling into 2 camps at this stage of NaNo –
Do not lose faith there is still a week – 7 days…. I had 15000 left to write when I started this evening – now I have less. Every word you manage is a word more to count…. so JUST KEEP GOING! You may get there!
Now any Wrimo will tell you that the problems start when the word counts dip or you miss days. 5 days ago I had written 34404 words. I was slightly ahead of the 33333 target. Then I got busy; Mainly with work and a couple of nights where I had neither the time nor energy to write much. This past weekend I was out all day Saturday at the Writers’ Toolkit Conference and Sunday at the Open Mic event.
Today I am trying to catch up – despite having the day off work I had other plans and so needed to spend the late afternoon and evening (now) catching up and here’s how I am managing.
TOP TIPS (FOR THOSE FALLING BEHIND!)
I started this afternoon about 2.5 hours ago with just 35000 (having not written more than 596 words in 4 days!
35000 words have become 37120 (2120 words written so far today) today’s number 41666 (the devil’s in the detail!) That’s 4546 words to go which I realistically will not manage tonight – I have work tomorrow and flashes to edit for printing tomorrow before Wednesdays event.
I am working tomorrow but have had the evening plans cancelled. This will give me a few extra hours of writing time. Of course a bit like a high credit loan everyday adds another couple of 1000 words onto the running total and when you don’t have a stretch of more than 7 days ahead of you before the deadline it can get pretty hot under the collar! (So wear a round neck!)
I tried to push through 38000 barrier – but I am drained now and have editing for my set on Wednesday (my 1st Flash Fiction event) I have worked out I need to write just over 2000 words a day to reach the 50K by the end of November.
I hope to get a bit done before Thurs to allow for less than 2000 a day after that. I will get there – this is my first NaNoWriMo and I AM going to win it!
STATS
Work was cancelled today so although I won’t earn a penny, I do get to spend some time writing.
I need to catch up with the NaNo Novel after managing less than 100 words last night, it really was just a token write.
There is a writing conference in the city tomorrow that I found out about back in February. I was hoping to get into the city for the regional NaNoWriMo writing meeting, but the conference can offer me so much more, and costs less than a pair of shoes, when I think of all the money I have spent on workshops this year it seems worth going. I will try and book a ticket today.
Today’s plan – break the 36000 barrier on the NaNo Novel, catch up with PAD challenge poetry (currently on day 17/22), book tickets for tomorrow’s conference.
I will check in later.
It is close to midnight and I haven’t managed to start my writing yet today. I worked all day and most of the evening and have spent a few good hours with Mr G tonight.
I plan on doing some writing and updating now for a bit. I was working tomorrow but have had the work cancelled – so one late night won’t hurt (famous last words, you watch me get an early morning call!) I am hoping to break the 35000 barrier tonight and use my customised image!
I will update this post and hopefully the NaNo word count – just writing some as I was getting ready for tonight’s poetry event.
I managed 624 words – which brings me just over the average total for now (33,333) I have 33692 total words – but am hoping to add a few more tonight depending on time and energy if not my catch up will be over the weekend.
Well I have managed another 560 words! I do have to work in the morning and need sleep so I will probably call it a night or just try for 200 or so more (feel the burn)!
34 252 – I made it over 34,000 (I have already made a 35000 picture, that’s an incentive to get there!)
Managed 152 words, am calling it a night.
Before you get too excited by the title… I haven’t finished my total…. but I have managed to get in from work do all the things I needed to do and then sit down in one sitting to bash out 2004 words and have managed it in less than 1.5 hours. I barely stopped and I did free write – no editing.
It is funny how many inconsistences you find and want to edit when writing this way. Resist!
So now I have broken 33000 and my little graph is proud to have bars just over the average by this point marker line.
I have been busy for 4 days and was unable to complete any NaNo writing – today I had the day off and set myself the writing challenge of 4000 (secretly hoping for more like 6000) – unfortunately it was 5pm before I started! It has taken me the best part of 4 hours but I have succeeded.
I have been counting the parts in bitesize chunks of 200 – 500 words, not intentionally this is just where the natural breaks came – I had a post-it note taken from the plan highlighting the events for different characters in tonight’s write and I have been updating my word count too. By the 18th day you should be around 30000 words, I was *up until my break- ahead on NaNo stats and so it is a tad disappointing to sit within the limit now but I know I have some time on Weds and see no reason why I can’t produce at least 1457 words a night after work (this is my limit now dropped from 1667 – to finish on time.)
I shall now share my STATS and TIPS with you and wish you continued success in this vital 3rd week of writing!
I HAVE BROKEN MY NEXT MILESTONE!

Found out my par is 30000 for the 18th and if I manage that I will back on track but not ahead, I do have weds afternoon to catch up and get ahead again and every night after work I shall do my best to write 1667 (although my average word count needed should be lower by the time I have finished writing tonight.)
