Daily Post – Thank You

How not to make this sound like an Oscar or Blog award acceptance speech…red carpet

Daily Prompt: Thank You

The internet is full of rants. Help tip the balance: today, simply be thankful for something (or someone).

love 2

I should thank my mum, without whom I would not exist.

I could thank my grandparents and great aunty for being truly wise and inspirational figures in my life.

I should thank Mr G for putting up with me through thick and thin.

I could thank divine spirits for steering me back onto the path of creativity.

I could thank Amazon for cheap books that have made the past fortnight of waiting for post, a delight!

I should thank God that I am born in a country of freedom with all my basic needs met and taken for granted.

I could thank the stars for shining, or the rain for watering the allotment so that I don’t have to.

But…

I am going to be a stereo-typical cliché and thank you lot!

Thanks for following this new chapter of my life, thanks for reading my posts, for letting me know that you are out there. Thanks for taking the time to comment or criticise to help me improve or for connecting with my spirit. Thanks for the emails and encouragement. Thanks for the Blog Award nominations and the re-blogs. Thanks for finding us here in the massive wilderness of Blogland. Thanks for sticking around.

Thanks for everything you do, it means the world to me.

When I started blogging January 2013, I had no idea where this would go or what I would discover. So many wonderful opportunities and fantastic creative minds. I am truly grateful and filled with happiness when I see that something I have posted has touched someone out there.

So to you all, for being utterly fabulous. I thank YOU!

Promoting

I love surfing the net on search mode. The town I just moved away from have held an annual weekend of events ever since I lived there. This year they have expanded there evening programme to feature not just music, but poetry. I wish I had known about it sooner as I may have been able to get involved. Still there is always next year. The details have already been secured in my 2013/4 notebook.

I am very excited because I will be attending a book launch and poetry reading this Saturday evening. More on this event soon.

Before that I have a ton of ‘real life’ to deal with including more applications and an interview!

I have also started to promote INKSPILL and am currently trying to get local press involved – I am amazed by how many writing events occur in the home county without promotion and I for one usually find out about them after the time has passed. I know quite a few local writers and I am sure they will be interested in some of the INKSPILL programme. I will also be emailing a network invitation.

I would gratefully appreciate any sharing of the information (link them to the INKSPILL page) if you are willing to promote October’s retreat through your blog. Feel free to save and use the jpeg from this page. You will of course get a thank you mention in the programme.

Fingers crossed for my mini PR machine, this (like my old town’s annual weekend festival) could be the first of many retreats.

Early Bird Vs Night Owl

Standard

Naturally I have always been a night owl. I am trying to train myself (in light of being on call early) to get to grips with morning routines. I have been up for 3.5 hours, I have read about writing, written, completed some chores in between, taken business calls and had breakfast. My mind is in so many places that I am going to complete all the chores now, however long it takes. I can write away this evening knowing I have had a productive day.

I have also been thinking long and hard about having all my fingers in all the pies (writing cross genre) and I do believe that I need to concentrate on one form. This is professional advice that seems to make sense to me.

We are all naturally good at or drawn towards one genre in particular. Mine has the smallest market and least financial reward. But in itself IS the place I am meant to be or at least start. I can always use pen names and branch out.

This month’s action plan is the last one I look for opportunities beyond my form. Unless something spectacular lands in my path along with all the ideas to complete it!

First step out of learning and into doing….
