NaPoWriMo Day 28# 28/30 – Colour My World

Standard

Another NaPowriMo prompt used today.

Today, I’d like you to pick a color. How many synonyms are there for your color (e.g., green, chartreuse, olive, veridian)?  Look around the room, take a walk — note everything you see that is your chosen color. Then start writing, using the color as a guide.

I also emailed Maureen Thorson to tell her what a fantastic job she is doing creating this challenge for National Poetry Month.

Colour My World

Blossom, pink, blush, coral,
flush, fuchsia, rose, salmon,
A blush of pink in your canvas
artwork,
The colour of the blanket you
bought me,
The spine of a DVD in amongst
your collection.
My mobile phone case,
The flowers you bought me
last weekend,
now open in full bloom.

Picture It & Write – Treading Water

Standard

Sunday rolls around again and it is with excitement (to write something non-Nano) that I pick up the prompt from ermiliablog. Enjoy!

Oceans cool my body

as I submerge my skin

deeper in,

deeper in.

My eyes stare at  clouds

dancing on the edge of

an infinite horizon,

My mind has already travelled home.

In stillness, my body welcomes

the water lapping to and from my being.

I know one day these same waters

Will bring me home to you.

You who may not be waiting

for time

or tide

or man.

NaNoWriMo… Camp is Nearly Over & I Am Just a Day off Target! Updated

Standard

I have really enjoyed the challenge of Camp NaNoWriMo and do NOT regret signing up. I have had to shelve some freelance opportunities (none paid) to complete the work on my manuscript. I have managed more words than I thought I ever could, I meant to stay on track and write the average word count, I won’t pretend the days I missed writing 1667 words were fun, the days I had a mountain of 1000’s of words to catch up on were tough.

My Cabin only had one other active participant, so I sought some support in the Nano Forums and in blogland, so many of us participated. It will be interesting to see what is written on the blogs at the end of camp. I am already part way through an article on ‘Life after Camp’.

Being keyed into writing in this intense level opens some doors to the life of a writer. As I freelancer I tend to write multiple short pieces and work on several projects at the same time. Most of my ‘novel’ ideas are scattered in mind maps on the pages of my writing journal. This is the intense attention that they are going to need to become a reality. A good lesson to learn. Added to the lesson I learnt early on this year (February) about scheduling writing and managing action plans.

The end of camp happens in 3 days and I have just 3500 words to complete the ‘winner’ 50K, I must have been mad to make the first nanthon a 50K and I missed out on trying to get sponsorship this time, I didn’t think people would sponsor me to write, ‘pah, what kind of challenge is that?’… well now I can tell them and there were some days I thought running 10K would have been easier!

I am already looking forward to the next camp in July! Although I am going for a lower count and hoping to create a novella, the next time I will be armed with tips. Tips I be sharing with you before the next Camp! camp_nano_promo_13
