NaPoWriMo – A Week in Camp – 7 Days of Activity

Standard

A week in and I have just discovered (this being my 1st ever NaPoWriMo camp!) where the prompts are.

They are optional, I have enjoyed creating daily poetry on my own and will continue to do so.

At the weekend I will then attempt to follow the prompts and create 7 poems and post 7 extracts from them here for you all to enjoy!

Which I will do over the next few days. Keep checking back for extra extracts!

Incase any of you are lost – this is where the prompts are hidden

Day 1 # 1st April 2013

Using the first line of another poem.

Extract#1

To a wonderful mother

Who held me from my

first moment on Earth.

Whose arms have always

enclosed me safely in a hug.

Whose hand was always there to

hold mine

when I shook with nerves or fear,

Who wiped my forehead

and stroked my hair

Until the nightmare had

filtered out of my head.

The first line belongs to John Hegley and comes from ‘Smothering Sunday’

Day 2# 2nd April 2013

Extract #2

Love will never hurt you,

Your parents will never lie,

You will always be able to

Achieve all your dreams,

You can be anything

you want to be.

The monsters from your

Nightmares don’t exist,

He loves you very much.

Life will make you happy,

I will always be there,

I will always be there for you.

This idea belonged to Kelsey Howard — that of a poem that tells a lie. I think you could have a poem that’s all lies.

NaPoWriMo Day 7# 7/30 Extract – Funny Acrostic

Standard

Note it isn’t actually funny – this is an extract – the full word of the Acrostic is Laughter, the title is wordplay.

Here is my favourite day of all

The day of rest, spent with you.

Essence of love, breath of beauty –

Real life.

NaNoWriMo Day 6 & 7# – One Week in & 8 Days Behind!?

Standard

Well I have fallen asleep at the laptop three times this morning trying to add to my manuscript! I have now given up and will treat myself to a Sunday Snooze and hopefully write more later. I have managed over 1200 but as I didn’t write or log anything yesterday – my 215 words down has grown to 2251!

Not a lot I have the power to change at the present. The workshop & lack of sleep Friday night have wiped me out!

I am only racing against myself…. I am only racing against myself!…I am only racing against myself…. I am only racing against myself…

I managed to spend lots more time on the manuscript this evening on and off and have now written more than a days worth – unfortunately I am still a day behind, having had Saturday off from the m/s. Oh well, I knew that it would be like this. I am away next week and so will probably end up with an EVEN larger deficit of words next week! Then it’s back to work. I have made it over 10,000 words 1/5th of the way to target! I have written at least 8000 more than I would have done if I hadn’t signed up to camp! 2013-Participant-Lantern-Facebook-Profile
